The month of March is very busy in 5th grade!
February 27 – March 3 is Reading Week!
March 2nd is Reading Night at BGE!
BENCHMARKS – Please make sure your child gets plenty of sleep and eats a good breakfast. Please also make sure your child is on time to school these days as well!
March 3 is the reading benchmark
March 7 is the math benchmark
March 9 is the science benchmark
We also have 2 field trips coming up! Your child should have brought home a yellow form giving the dates of the field trips with a permission slip and a behavior contract. Our Riverside Dinner Theatre trip is March 23. I need the behavior contract signed by you and your student as soon as possible. The money and permission slip is due by March 16th.
This week in Math we will be learning about different parts of a circle, such as diameter, radius, circumference and center. We will also be learning how to calculate the diameter and radius.
In Social Studies we will be finishing up continents and oceans, then begin learning about the North American Regions.
In Grammar we will learning about hyphens and reviewing capitalization.
Please make sure your child reads for 15-30 minutes every night and that they are reviewing their multiplication facts!
This Monday, we will be going to the Virginia Living Museum for our class field trip! We will leave at 9 a.m. and return at 5 p.m. This will be an exciting trip and wonderful for the students and myself!
This week we will also be beginning fact and opinion in reading. In math we will begin learning algebra and how variables work in expressions. In science we are continuing to learn about the fascinating world of cells.
Next week is spring break! Have a wonderful week and a restful spring break!
Please have students read daily for at least 20 minutes over the break! They need to read, read read!
This week we are starting poetry in Reading. We will be learning how to interpret poetry and what the author is trying to tell us.
In Math we will starting graphs. We will be reviewing bar graphs, line graphs and stem and leaf plots.
In Science we will be begin to learn about the ocean. We will be learning its physical characteristics and ecosystems.
In Social Studies we will be finishing up learning about the Southern Colonies.
